What is a Ceramic Cremation Urn for Ashes?
A piece is called ceramic if it is made of clay, hollow, and fired in a kiln. By far, the most commonly used urns are made of ceramic.

How Ceramic Urns Are Made
It all starts with a mould, typically made of plaster. The plaster mould is clamped and filled with liquid clay (slip). Once the slip layer reaches the desired thickness (depending on the urn’s size), the excess clay is poured out. When the remaining clay is dry enough, the mould can be removed, and additional elements (such as a teardrop) are carefully attached.

Once fully dried, the seam (created by the mould’s multiple parts) is smoothed out. The urn is then fired in a kiln at over 1000 degrees Celsius. After firing, the clay transforms into durable ceramic.
