A place that holds, just as the memory does

Choosing a memorial stone is not something you do lightly. You are looking for something that reflects who your loved one truly was, something that will last, and something that feels right in the place where you come to remember them. Granite gives you that durability. Laser engraving gives you the freedom to make it genuinely personal.

Black granite: a material built to last

Black granite is one of the most durable natural stones used in memorial work. It is exceptionally hard, resistant to the elements, and holds its appearance over decades without fading or deteriorating. The dark, finely polished surface of this flat memorial stone is exactly the right ground for laser engraving: every line, every detail, every feature of a face comes through with sharpness and contrast. That is not a happy coincidence. It follows directly from the physical properties of this particular stone.

Laser engraving: a portrait held in stone

The image is burned directly into the polished granite using a laser process, making it a permanent part of the stone itself. Rain, frost and sunlight will not degrade or soften it over time. You can choose from a selection of available images, or supply your own photograph or design. For a clean, precise result, any image you provide should have a minimum resolution of 300 DPI. The person you are remembering deserves to be recognisable, not reduced to a blurred impression, and the quality of the engraving makes that possible.

Placement, regulations and what to check beforehand

Before placing your order, it is worth speaking with your cemetery manager or local authority first. Many cemeteries have specific rules about the dimensions, materials and forms permitted for memorial stones, and some require installation to be carried out by approved local stonemasons. Any concrete base slab or foundation piling beneath the memorial will typically need to be arranged through the cemetery directly. Taking a few minutes to confirm these details in advance will save you considerable difficulty later.

You approve the design before anything is finalised

Once your order is placed, we will send you a proof for approval before production begins. This gives you the opportunity to check the text, the layout and the image carefully, and to request any changes. There is no rush.

If you have any questions about the design, the engraving process or placing your order, please do get in touch by phone or via the contact form. We will work through everything with you calmly and at your own pace.
